Aging is inevitable, but the signs of aging can be held at bay with a Mukilteo Microdermabrasion. It is a fact of life that we all age, and with age comes wrinkles, sun spots and lines – what used to be freckles and laugh lines are no longer cute! Stand proud and shout it loud:

Aging is not an option!!!!!

Or at least showing the aging is not an option, with Mukilteo Microdermabrasion on your side (or should that be, your face, neck, hands and decolletage).

Why Does Skin Wrinkle as We Age?

Believe it or not, as our skin ages, it undergoes the same chemical reaction that occurs when browning food – our body ‘cooks’ as we age! Complexes, called Age-related Glycation End-products (AGEs), permanently alter skin proteins; reducing elasticity and increasing brittleness of the proteins. AGEs are plastic-like molecules as formed by the cross-linking of glucose (primary fuel for body) with free-radicals. This process is what also happens to cause cooked foods to brown.

Since the dermis (layer just below the epidermis) is composed of structural proteins, including collagen fibers (80%) and elastin. The proteins provide elasticity and strength for the skin. With time, collagen quantities decrease, and the biological polymer (woven “mesh” of proteins in epidermis) becomes:

  • Looser
  • Thicker
  • More Clumped
  • Cross-linked to other Fibers in the skin

This biological change in the skin’s proteins causes sagging and wrinkling. One way to reduce production of the AGEs that ultimately lead to skin aging is to reduce the amount of glucose in your diet. As indicated, excess glucose will ultimately lead to ‘cooking’ your skin.

What are Age Spots?

The discoloration of skin, commonly referred to as “age spots”, are not dependent on age; “Too Much Sun Exposure” spots is a more accurate description. Regardless your age, an overexposure to UV rays will eventually result in sun-,age-,liver-spots. Both types of brown spots,  freckles (ephiledes) , solar lentigos (age spots) are caused by damage to the melanocytes. These cells occur in the epidermis at a rate of about every 10-20 epidermis cells. Other cells in the epidermis include dead skin cells and keratin, providing protection for the skin.

Melanocytes produce melanin pigment as a reaction to UV exposure. This brown pigment is transferred to the skin cells, as sun protection. Skin’s color is affected by the amount of melanin in the epidermis:

higher quantities of melanin = darker skin

Conversely:

lower quantities of melanin = lighter skin

As such, a lighter skinned person is more prone to spots (as freckles or brown spots) than a darker skinned person. Please note: should you notice a lesion that changes color, shape or texture, have the area examined by a dermatologist to assure the spot is not cancerous. The best prevention of brown spots on your skin is to use sunscreen that protects against UVA & UVB exposure.

Microdermabrasion to Reduce Signs of Aging

By removing the uppermost layers of your skin’s surface, microdermabrasion not only removes any areas of discoloration, it promotes regeneration of new tissue. The instrument used for the process gently sandblasts (actually ‘aluminum-blasts’ or ‘diamond-blasts’) as it vacuums both the abraded cells and dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Microdermabrasion also increases the absorption of any creams or lotions, making them more effective.

Everett Microdermabrasion Revealed!

Friday Jul 22, 2011 | Katie | 2 comments

Suffering from the scars of adolescent acne? Want to remove those unsightly age spots? The perfect non-surgical solution to any skin imperfections is Everett Microdermabrasion! This deep exfoliation will leave your skin fresh and smooth.

How is Microdermabrasion Performed?

After cleansing your skin with a special cleansing gel, your esthetician uses a hand-held device that ‘sand-blasts’ your skin with aluminum oxide crystals. As the tube on the hand-held wand is pressed against your skin, the aluminum oxide crystals flow through the tube. The tube also removes the exfoliated skin cells from your skin.

To assure a consistent finish, the esthetician slowly moves the wand across your entire face. It is essential that the entire face is exfoliated, not just the affected areas. Following microdermabrasion, your skin will be coated with a sun block cream. You can return to normal activity immediately following the treatment. It is crucial that you apply the appropriate protection (nourishment and sunblock) to your skin to avoid sun damage.

Is Microdermabrasion the Same as Dermabrasion?

While the desired results are similar, the procedures are quite different. Dermabrasion, often requires an anesthetic (either local or general) and can last as long as 2-hours. Visible improvement of deep wrinkles, lines and scars as well as hyper-pigmentation can be achieved with dermabrasion. Leaving the skin extremely sensitive, red and swollen, it can take as long as 10-days to completely heal.

Microdermabrasion, on the other hand, is not nearly as invasive as dermabrasion, and can be performed at LeVisage Wellness Center and Day Spa by an esthetician. While  not as deep as dermabrasion, microdermabrasion often must be repeated a number of times to achieve desired results. Recovery is virtually immediate, and with proper protection, you can return to normal routine the same day.

How Many Sessions are Required?

Depending on the severity of the condition of your skin, your esthetician will likely recommend 6-10 sessions to realize the full benefits of microdermabrasion. A healing period of at least 2 weeks is required between each session. To retain the effects of your sessions, you may find that follow-up sessions every 2-4 months are necessary.

Is any Special Preparation Necessary?

While there are no special pre-treatment is required, it is best that you cleanse your face thoroughly just before your appointment. Do not apply any moisturizers or makeup prior to your dermabrasion session. Additionally, you may be advised to discontinue taking:

  • Aspirin based medications
  • Retin-A
  • Renova
  • Differen
  • Glycolic Acid Products
It is strongly recommended that you avoid tanning (sunbathing) and waxing of the areas to be treated at least 1 week prior to your session. Finally, if possible, to improve blood flow to the treated area, stop smoking for at least 1 week prior to treatment.

Welcome to one of the newest crazes in spas,  which offer this new treatment to Everett Microdermabrasionskin, leaving it smoother, fresher, and blemish free. This procedure is called Everett microdermabrasion. It performs like an exfoliation on your skin, like it eliminates the uppermost layer of your dead skin, it is a lot thorough and the results are visible in just a few sessions. Many are amazed that right after their first session which would normally take around 20-30 minutes, peeling starts right away. It is also suggested to combine this treatment with anti-aging skin care products as this procedure helps in diminishing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, as well as unwanted pores. So how does it really work? Everett Microdermabrasion uses a device wherein aluminum dioxide is sprayed across the skin’s surface, thus penetrating the dead skin cells on the epidermis. It can be a little rough but it shouldn’t be painful. Afterwords, the dermatologist would clean up all remaining traces of corundum powder or aluminum dioxide leaving you with a more glowing skin.

There are a few drawbacks, however, in this procedure. Mukilteo Microdermabrasion increases the reaction of your skin to being hypersensitive to the sun.  Since the old skin is already peeled off from the dermis, thus the new skin is exposed and will be thin-skinned to sun exposure. Obviously this means that application of sunscreen products is highly recommended. It is not advisable to expose under the heat of the sun your newly treated skin. Another thing to consider before deciding to accept this procedure is the cost that this would entail, since you would go for not just only one session but a series of session depending on your skin type and the damage of your skin. So it would be best if you could estimate the cost of each session and how many sessions you need to undertake. Also ensure or prove the training of the attendant who will be doing the procedure because result may also vary depending on their expertise, research, and how extensive they are involve in any updates or training on this procedure.
